10th Steel Bridge Successfully Installed for Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project in Just 7 Hours

Ahmedabad: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved another milestone with the successful installation of its 10th steel bridge in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The 60-meter-long structure crosses over a Western Railway facility (laundry) situated near the railway tracks. Notably, this marks the first steel bridge to be launched for the bullet train project within Ahmedabad district.

Following months of meticulous planning, the bridge was positioned with precision in an exceptionally short span of seven hours. Weighing 485 metric tonnes, it was assembled on temporary trestles at a height of 16.5 meters above the ground. Using transverse launching, the structure was side-shifted into its final position with the help of two semi-automatic jacks of 200-tonne capacity, supported by locking trolleys for stability.

The bridge, standing 12 meters high and 11.4 meters wide, was fabricated at a specialized workshop in Wardha (Nagpur, Maharashtra) and transported to Ahmedabad via a custom-designed trailer. Construction involved approximately 20,360 high-strength torque shear bolts, along with elastomeric bearings to enhance durability and control vibrations.

As planned, the Ahmedabad viaduct of the high-speed rail project will pass through 31 crossings, including railway tracks, flyovers, canals, the Sabarmati river via a river bridge, and six dedicated steel bridges. Across the entire bullet train corridor, 28 steel bridges are to be built 17 in Gujarat and 11 in Maharashtra.
