1.5 Year Old Toddler Dies After Car Crashes Into Auto-Rickshaw In Surat’s Vesu Area

Surat: A devastating accident occurred in Surat’s Vesu area on Saturday, claiming the life of a 1.5-year-old child and leaving four others seriously injured. The incident unfolded when a car rammed into an auto-rickshaw carrying five passengers, including the toddler and his mother. The crash, captured on nearby CCTV cameras, shows the rickshaw losing control, crashing into a divider railing, and overturning.

The child, identified as Vidhvat, was travelling with his mother, Radhika, who works as a cleaner at a mall in the Vesu area. They had boarded the auto-rickshaw along with other passengers. As the vehicle approached a crossroads, a car coming from the direction of New VIP Road struck it violently from behind.

Locals rushed to the scene and began immediate rescue operations. Despite being swiftly moved to a private hospital, little Vidhvat succumbed to his injuries before doctors could save him. The other injured passengers were taken to Civil Hospital by 108 emergency services for urgent treatment.

The 21-year-old driver of the car, Krish Kejriwal, was reportedly heading to a movie at VR Mall when the accident occurred. Police investigations revealed that he had recently completed his graduation and is the son of a businessman involved in the raw materials trade. Following the incident, locals managed to detain the car driver until Vesu police arrived. Authorities later confirmed Kejriwal’s arrest and the seizure of the vehicle.

Deceased Vidhvat

Eyewitness accounts, including statements from passenger Eknath Jadhav, confirmed that the auto-rickshaw was moving steadily when it was struck from behind without warning. The auto-driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip over. The rickshaw was reportedly ferrying daily wage workers when the tragedy occurred.

Inspector J.I. Patel of Vesu Police Station stated that, based on CCTV evidence and witness testimonies, it was clear the car was at fault. A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway. The family of the deceased child, already struggling to make ends meet, has been left shattered by the sudden loss.
