Ronaldo Fails to Score Against Colombia; Congo Create History by Reaching World Cup Knockout Stage


Miami: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal were held to a goalless draw by Colombia on Sunday, but the result was enough for them to finish second in Group K and qualify for the FIFA World Cup knockout stage. Colombia had already secured qualification before the match.

Ronaldo Unable to Find the Net



Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made several attempts but failed to score against Colombia. The Colombian defenders successfully neutralised every attacking move from the Portuguese captain. In fact, Portugal failed to score throughout the match.

In the closing moments, Davinson Sanchez headed the ball into the net, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for offside.

Ronaldo had also failed to score in Portugal’s opening 1-1 draw against Congo. However, he struck twice in Portugal’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan.

Portugal to Face Croatia in Knockout Round

Portugal will now take on a strong Croatia side in the Round of 32 on July 2.

Colombia, meanwhile, will face Ghana in another knockout clash on July 3.

Congo Create History; Wissa Shines Again


‎In the other Group K match, African side Congo defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 to finish third in the group and qualify for the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Yoane Wissa scored twice, finding the net in the 68th and 91st minutes, as Congo scripted a historic victory. They will now face England in the Round of 32.

Algeria and Austria Also Advance

Algeria and Austria played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, with both teams securing qualification for the knockout stage.
