Youtuber Dhruv Rathee Slams The ₹800 Crore Hit Dhurandhar: ‘Well-Made Propaganda Is More Dangerous, Like Taj Story, Bengal Files’

Content creator Dhruv Rathee released a harsh video critique of Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, labeling it dangerous propaganda and ‘lies’. The political commentator had previously criticized the film’s violent content on social media. In a new video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Rathee condemned the film’s political stance and characterized it as more hazardous than ‘poorly-made’ films.

Dhruv Rathee labels Dhurandhar dangerous propaganda

On Saturday evening, Dhruv posted a video titled ‘Reality of Dhurandhar’ on his YouTube channel, wherein he attacked the film for being ‘jhootha and vahiyat’ propaganda (lies and falsehoods), claiming director Aditya Dhar attempted to sell lies through the production. In the video, Rathee acknowledged the film was well crafted, noting this made it ‘more dangerous’. He contended, “Well-made propaganda is more dangerous. Films like The Taj Story and The Bengal Films were not dangerous, kyunki wo bakwaas films thi (because they were bad films). But Dhurandhar is an engaging film.”

In the video, Rathee also refuted defenders of Dhurandhar who call it ‘just a film’. He stated, “The problem is that Dhurandhar repeatedly shows you it’s inspired by real events. It says so in the trailer. It shows the real footage from the 26/11 attacks. The real audio recordings of conversations between the terrorists and their handlers have been used. It also uses real-life gangsters and cops based in Pakistan’s Lyari.” Rathee contended that anchoring the film in reality made it more credible than other spy thrillers, such as Pathaan or Tiger films.
