In Chennai, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has accused political opponents of orchestrating the online leak of actor-turned-politician Vijay’s yet-to-be-released movie Jana Nayagan, just a day after portions of the film surfaced on the internet.
TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjuna directly blamed Union Minister of State L Murugan and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for the incident. He alleged that Murugan, who oversees the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as the Union Information and Broadcasting minister, coordinated with Udhayanidhi to facilitate the leak. The film, directed by H Vinoth and described as Vijay’s final cinematic project, has been mired in prolonged disputes with the CBFC and was still awaiting clearance ahead of its theatrical release. Vijay is currently contesting the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
Aadhav told reporters that the leak appeared designed to harm Vijay financially and personally while testing the limits of pressure that could be applied on him. He asserted that such moves would ultimately fail, as the people of Tamil Nadu would continue to support the TVK leader. Vijay himself has not commented publicly on the development, and neither the DMK nor the BJP has responded to the allegations.
The production house, KVN Productions, has filed a formal complaint demanding a forensic investigation and legal action against those responsible for the unauthorised circulation. In an official statement, the producers vowed to pursue both civil and criminal proceedings against every offender without exception. They urged the public not to share the leaked material and warned of legal consequences for anyone who does so.
Several prominent figures from the Tamil film industry strongly condemned the piracy. Actor Rajinikanth described the leak as shocking and painful, calling on film bodies to protest and the government to identify and strictly punish those involved so that such crimes do not recur. Kamal Haasan attributed the incident to a “systemic failure.” Producers Kalaipuli S. Dhanu and KR, along with theatre owners’ leader Tirupur Subramanian, also voiced their opposition to the leak.
