This Is The Reason Why Govinda Refused To Star In James Cameron’s “Avatar”
The Actor Turned Down The Offer Of Rs18 Crore

Govinda revealed that he was once offered a substantial Rs18 crore to appear in James Cameron’s epic film Avatar. In an interview with actor Mukesh Khanna, Govinda shared that he was approached for a role in the multi-billion-dollar franchise and was offered a generous sum, but he had to decline due to concerns about how the role might affect his health over time.
He stated that he left an offer of Rs 21.5 crore, and remembered that so vividly because it was a painful decision to leave it. He had met a Sardarji in America and had given him a business idea that had worked; some years later, the Sardarji made him meet James Cameron.
Govinda also claimed that he was the one to suggest the film’s title. He ascertained that James offered him Rs 18 crore for the role and said that he would be required to shoot for 410 days. To which, Govinda said that it was okay, but if he painted his body, he would be in the hospital.
Govinda emphasized the importance of an actor’s physical health, describing the body as their most important tool. While acknowledging that certain roles might be professionally rewarding, he stressed that the physical toll of such roles must be considered. He also reflected on the difficulty of turning down film offers, admitting that rejecting a project, even for personal health reasons, can lead to strained relationships, as some people hold onto their egos for years and require repeated apologies to repair the damage.
Sometimes, one has to keep apologizing for years after saying no to a film, even with close people, as their egos can be very strong, he added.
