Sunjay Kapur’s $4 Billion Legacy: Who Inherits His Fortune and What’s Set Aside for Karishma Kapoor’s Children?

The sudden passing of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar, has sparked widespread interest in the fate of his estimated $4 billion business empire and personal wealth of ₹10,300 crore. Kapur, who died at 53 from a heart attack during a polo match in London on June 12, 2025, leaves behind a complex legacy shaped by his leadership in the auto components industry and his high-profile personal life.
Forbes reported that Kapur’s net worth at the time of his death was $1.2 billion (₹10,300 crore), with his wealth peaking at $1.6 billion (₹13,000 crore) in 2022 and 2024. As per legal succession norms, his estate will primarily pass to his wife, Priya Sachdev, whom he married in 2017. However, Kapur made specific financial provisions for his two children with ex-wife Karishma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan. According to reports, he gifted them bonds valued at ₹14 crore, which generate a monthly income of ₹10 lakh each, ensuring their financial security.
Kapur’s personal life drew significant attention over the years. He was married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani from 1996 to 2000, followed by Bollywood actor Karishma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016. His marriage to Kapoor, which produced two children, ended in a widely publicized divorce. Since 2017, he was married to model-turned-actor Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son, Azarias. Kapur’s business acumen, however, defined his legacy. As head of Sona Comstar, one of the world’s leading auto component manufacturers with a market cap of nearly $4 billion, he expanded the company’s global footprint.
The news of Kapur’s death has left both the business and entertainment worlds reeling. His funeral, expected to take place in Delhi, faces delays due to legal formalities tied to his U.S. citizenship. Sona Comstar issued a statement affirming its commitment to stability, assuring stakeholders that operations will continue seamlessly to honor Kapur’s vision.
