Sunita Ahuja’s Blunt Rejection: “I Don’t Want Him” Why She Wouldn’t Marry Govinda Again

In a candid revelation that underscores the complexities of life in the spotlight, Sunita Ahuja, the long-time spouse of Bollywood icon Govinda, has firmly stated she has no desire to wed him in any future life. Responding to a pointed question during an interview with Pinkvilla, the outspoken Ahuja declared, “I don’t want him,” adding that while Govinda excels as a son and brother, he falls short as a husband. Her words, delivered with characteristic candor, offer a rare glimpse into the personal toll of stardom on their enduring marriage.

Ahuja, renowned for her unfiltered takes on everything from family dynamics to industry pressures, reflected on the inevitable missteps of youth. “One makes mistakes in their younger days—I did, and so did he,” she told Pinkvilla. “But once you reach a certain age, committing errors like that doesn’t look good, and why even bother? You have a beautiful family—a wife, lovely children. Why risk it?”

The couple, who tied the knot quietly in 1987, has weathered over three decades together, raising daughter Tina and son Yash amid Govinda’s whirlwind career. Ahuja emphasized the emotional anchors that have sustained her: her deep bond with her children. “I’m alive today because of my love for them,” she shared. “I want my kids to love only me.” Recalling playful rivalries from Tina’s childhood, when she’d tease her daughter about choosing her father over her, Ahuja noted the unwavering support she now receives. “My son and I are very close. He takes me out for dinner; Tina does too. As for friends? I don’t believe in friendships—they’re not in my life.”

Pressed on whether she’d confronted Govinda about his choices, Ahuja acknowledged their differing perspectives. “His thinking is different from mine,” she said simply. Yet, she painted a vivid picture of the sacrifices demanded of a star’s partner. “Look, he’s a hero. What can I say? He spends more time with heroines than with wives. To be married to a star, you need to be a very strong woman. You have to harden your heart. It took me 38 years to understand that. In my youth, I didn’t get it.”

Ahuja’s marriage to Govinda, star of hits like Hero No. 1, has long fascinated fans, blending glamour with gritty realism. Her latest comments, far from a lament, emerge as a testament to resilience, reminding audiences that even Bollywood’s brightest lights cast long shadows on private lives. As she put it, one lifetime with him is plenty: “Be born as my son in the next life—husband? Forget it.”
