Raj Kundra Rejects Rs 60 Crore Fraud Claims, Vows Truth Will Prevail

Businessman and film producer Raj Kundra has publicly addressed allegations of a Rs 60 crore fraud involving himself and his wife, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. Speaking in Delhi during the promotion of his Punjabi film Mehar, Kundra responded to questions about the high-profile case, firmly denying any wrongdoing. “The truth will come out eventually,” he stated, expressing confidence that both he and Shetty are innocent. He refrained from delving into specifics, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.

The allegations stem from a complaint filed by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari, who claims that funds intended for Best Deal TV, a now-defunct home shopping and online retail platform co-founded by Kundra and Shetty, were misused. According to Kothari, the couple misrepresented the financial arrangement, leading to significant losses. The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has taken up the investigation, registering a First Information Report (FIR) and issuing a Lookout Circular (LOC) against Kundra and Shetty to prevent them from leaving the country due to their frequent international travel.

Kundra emphasized that neither he nor Shetty has engaged in any misconduct, asserting, “We’ve never done anything wrong in life, and we never will.” He acknowledged that controversies often surround him but maintained his innocence, choosing to let the legal process unfold. The couple’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, has previously described the allegations as a civil matter already addressed by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Mumbai, dismissing claims of criminal intent.

The case has drawn significant attention, amplified by Shetty’s prominence in Bollywood and Kundra’s history of legal entanglements. As the investigation continues, the couple remains under scrutiny, with the EOW summoning Kundra for questioning on September 15.
