Salman Khan marked his 60th birthday on Saturday (December 27) with a special announcement. The actor celebrated the milestone by releasing the first teaser of his upcoming film Battle of Galwan, adding significance to the occasion.
The one-minute teaser showcases Khan in an action-packed avatar as an Indian Army officer prepared to confront adversaries head-on. The war drama preview opens with Khan delivering an inspiring address to his battalion, accompanied by visuals of rugged high-altitude landscape. Another sequence depicts Khan gripping a tree branch while his troops stand armed with stones, ready for hand-to-hand combat against enemy forces.
Helmed by director Apoorva Lakhia, Battle of Galwan is scheduled for theatrical release on April 17, 2026. The production features Chitrangada Singh alongside Khan and is produced by Salman Khan Films.
Understanding the Galwan Valley incident
The film draws from the 2020 military confrontation between Indian and Chinese forces in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley region. The hostile encounter between troops from both nations occurred in June 2020.
Tensions reached a breaking point at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on June 15, resulting in a violent face-off that claimed lives on both sides. Due to a bilateral agreement prohibiting firearms near the border, soldiers engaged in combat using improvised weapons including hands, wooden implements, and stones.
Events leading to the clash
The Galwan Valley witnessed its most severe military confrontation in 45 years on June 15, 2020, between Indian and Chinese forces. Prior to the deadly engagement, tensions had been mounting with both nations deploying additional troops along the frontier.
India alleged that Chinese forces had advanced into Indian-controlled territory beyond the LAC. Local military commanders from both armies held discussions on June 6, resulting in the establishment of a buffer zone separating the forces. However, when an Indian patrol discovered a Chinese encampment within this buffer area and approached to investigate, the situation rapidly deteriorated into violent combat.

The clash resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers. China initially remained silent about its casualties but eventually acknowledged in February 2021 that five of its personnel were killed during the encounter.
