Veteran Actor Nana Patekar Dies At 75 Due To Cardiac Arrest

Panaji: Veteran actor Nana Patekar has died at 75, leaving the Hindi and Marathi film industries shocked. The actor died early Thursday morning in Goa after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence.

According to hospital sources, Patekar was found unconscious at his home and was rushed to a hospital. Doctors tried to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, but he did not respond to treatment. He was declared dead at around 5:20 am.

His son, Malhar Patekar, was informed about his father’s death and travelled to Goa. The family is expected to share more details as arrangements for the last rites are made.

His Final Public Appearance

What makes the news even more sudden is that Patekar had been seen in public just a few days before his death.

The actor attended an event in Dona Paula, Goa, on October 4, where he addressed those present. There had been no indication at the time that it would be his final public appearance.

A Career That Spanned Decades

Nana Patekar was not an actor who stayed in one mould. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he played everything from intense and troubled characters to villains and comic roles.

He made his film debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to deliver memorable performances in films such as Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Raajneeti, Natsamrat and Welcome.

His powerful dialogue delivery and unmistakable voice became part of his identity on screen. At the same time, his performances in Marathi cinema and theatre earned him a separate following.

Patekar was honoured with three National Film Awards during his career and received the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to the arts.

More Than an Actor

Away from films, Patekar was also known for his social work. He worked with Naam Foundation, which has supported farmers and families affected by drought and financial hardship in Maharashtra.

That side of his life often received less attention than his film career, but it became an important part of his public identity.

Funeral Details

Details of Nana Patekar’s funeral and last rites are still emerging. His family is expected to announce the arrangements, while friends and members of the film industry are likely to gather to pay their final respects.

Tributes are also expected from actors, filmmakers and other public figures who worked with him over the years.

For audiences, Nana Patekar’s legacy will live on through the characters he made unforgettable. Whether playing a serious dramatic role or making audiences laugh, he brought a rawness and intensity to the screen that was difficult to imitate.

His death marks the end of an era for an actor who spent more than 40 years making Indian cinema his own.
