Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 3’ To Be Made In Hindi And Malayalam, Likely To Clash with Ajay Devgn’s Remake

Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam’ crime thriller series won over both critics and the box office, especially with the sequel released in 2022 grossing approximately Rs. 350 crore worldwide! However, its third part may face some tough competition—here’s why.
The Hindi-language series is originally adapted from the Malayalam films ‘Drishyam’ (2013) and ‘Drishyam 2’ (2021), starring Mohanlal. Now, Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph are planning to make ‘Drishyam 3’ a bilingual release in both Malayalam and Hindi. With the original creators, Joseph and producer Anthony Perumbavoor, targeting a pan-India release and planning to appeal to Hindi-speaking audiences as well, this could pose a challenge for Devgn’s new adaptation.

One of the reasons Devgn’s versions have been hugely successful in North India is their strong appeal to Hindi-speaking viewers. But if the Malayalam original now offers the third installment in Hindi as well, audiences might prefer to watch the “OG” in theatres.
Adding to the challenge, Joseph and Mohanlal are aiming to take ‘Drishyam 3’ on floors by the end of May, while the Hindi version is still in development. Reports suggest Devgn’s film may only begin production in October, as he is currently tied up with projects like ‘Dhamaal 4’ and ‘Ranger’. Since both versions share core characters and overlapping plot elements, this timeline gap could lead to conflicts.
However, the Hindi version of ‘Drishyam 3’ is reportedly set to have a different storyline compared to the Malayalam original, unlike the earlier films, which were direct remakes. This could help the Hindi film stand out but may also intensify the competition between the two versions. Kumar Mangat Pathak, producer of the Hindi remakes, is reportedly in talks with the original creators to explore the possibility of a simultaneous release for both the Malayalam and Hindi versions. This strategy could help manage the competition between the two films.
