Mohanlal to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 at 71st National Film Awards on Sept 23, 2025

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal will be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023, recognising his landmark contribution to Indian cinema across four decades. The honour will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025, marking a celebratory moment for the veteran actor and his admirers.

Sharing the news on X, the ministry said the selection followed the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Committee, praising Mohanlal’s unmatched versatility, dedication, and enduring impact on the country’s film heritage. The post described his journey as inspirational, highlighting his work as an actor, director, and producer, and called his legacy a golden standard in Indian film history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mohanlal in a message on X, calling him a byword for excellence and range, and lauding his body of work spanning Malayalam cinema and notable performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi. The Prime Minister said Mohanlal’s artistic achievements across mediums are deeply inspiring and expressed hope that his accomplishments will continue to motivate future generations.
