Karisma Kapoor’s Kids Battle Stepmother Over ₹30,000 Crore Estate

The ongoing legal dispute over the ₹30,000 crore estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has escalated, with his children from his marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan, filing a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court. They allege that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay’s third wife, forged his will to seize control of his assets. The siblings are seeking their rightful share of their father’s vast fortune, estimated at ₹30,000 crore.

Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away on June 12 during a polo match in England, reportedly due to a heart attack, though the cause remains unconfirmed. The court, presided over by Justice Jyoti Singh, has directed Priya to disclose all of Sunjay’s movable and immovable assets as of his death, with the next hearing scheduled for October 9. The children’s lawsuit claims Priya withheld the will for over seven weeks before presenting it at a family meeting on July 30, raising suspicions of forgery.

Mandhira Kapur Smith, Sunjay’s sister, has publicly supported Samaira and Kiaan, expressing disbelief that her brother would exclude his children from his will given their close relationship. Speaking to ANI, Mandhira stated, “I’m very happy about it because finally the family will know something and have some knowledge about anything really.” She emphasized the need for transparency in the case.

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay were married from 2003 to 2016, parting ways through a mutual divorce.

They share two children, Samaira (born 2005) and Kiaan (born 2011). Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev in 2017, with whom he had a son, Azarias. The legal battle has drawn significant attention, with Priya’s legal team defending the will’s validity while the plaintiffs demand clarity on the estate’s distribution. The case continues to unfold, spotlighting a complex family feud over one of India’s largest inheritances.
