Akshay Kumar Devastated as Paresh Rawal Abruptly Exits Hera Pheri 3, Says Director Priyadarshan

In a stunning blow to the much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3, director Priyadarshan has revealed the emotional toll of Paresh Rawal’s sudden departure from the project, leaving lead actor Akshay Kumar in tears. The iconic comedy franchise, beloved for its slapstick humor and memorable characters, faces uncertainty after Rawal, who plays the cherished Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, walked away without prior notice to the team. Priyadarshan expressed his shock and disappointment, noting that he made no attempt to dissuade Rawal after the actor firmly communicated his decision.

The film, which reunites the original trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, had already begun production, with contracts signed and a promotional scene filmed alongside an IPL teaser just ten days prior. Priyadarshan clarified that Kumar, who recently acquired the franchise rights from producer Feroz Nadiadwala, was deeply affected by Rawal’s exit. “Akshay had tears in his eyes when he asked me, ‘Priyan, why is Paresh doing this to us?’” the director told, emphasizing that Kumar should not face financial losses due to Rawal’s abrupt decision.

Addressing speculation about creative differences, Priyadarshan firmly denied any issues, stating that Kumar has never interfered with his directorial vision or diminished anyone’s role in his films. He also refuted rumors that Rawal’s exit stemmed from dissatisfaction with his character’s prominence or remuneration, confirming that all agreements were in place before shooting began.

Rawal’s departure has sparked widespread disappointment among fans, who have taken to social media to voice their dismay. Many argue that the essence of Hera Pheri lies in the chemistry of the trio, with some even urging that the film should not proceed without Rawal. The actor, however, sent a message to Priyadarshan post-announcement, expressing respect and a desire to collaborate again, while firmly stating his decision was personal and unrelated to the director. “When I tried calling him, he texted, saying, ‘Please don’t call me. This is my decision and it has nothing to do with you.

The Hera Pheri franchise, which began with the 2000 cult classic directed by Priyadarshan, followed by the commercially successful Phir Hera Pheri in 2006, has long been a fan favorite. The third installment, slated for a 2026 release, now hangs in the balance as the team grapples with this unexpected setback. Meanwhile, Suniel Shetty, in an interview, echoed the shock, admitting he and Kumar were “clueless” about Rawal’s decision, calling it a “crisis” for the production.
