Hansal Mehta Praises Kangana Ranaut’s Talent Amid Past Tensions

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has voiced admiration for Kangana Ranaut’s on-screen talent despite a recent public spat on X and a strained collaboration on the 2017 film Simran. Mehta said, “I am very fond of her,” highlighting her captivating presence. “The camera loves her,” he added, noting her unaware magic in front of it, even as he acknowledged their fallout, saying, “We did not get along, humari nahi bani, hota hai (it happens).”

Their history stems from Simran, a heist drama inspired by Sandeep Kaur’s real-life bank robberies, where creative differences soured their partnership. In a interview, Mehta revealed Ranaut shaped the film’s vision entirely during shooting, leaving little for editing. Though he praised her as “a very talented actor,” he felt her potential was underused due to her self-focused narratives.

Despite past friction, Mehta’s gesture signals reconciliation. He noted Ranaut’s fans often laud Simran as a standout in his work, underscoring her impact. As Mehta continues with projects like Scam 1992 and Ranaut juggles acting and politics, his comments reflect a mix of professional respect and a desire to move beyond old disputes.
