Dry Spell For Bollywood?: Movie Releases Getting Delayed Ahead Of IPL
Fewer Releases Scheduled During The Next Three Months

In terms of theatrical releases, the Bollywood calendar seems to be blank for the next three months, due to very less movies scheduled for a release on the big screen.
Among other reasons, the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) is said to be one of the reasons for this dry spell of movies. A number of releases that were scheduled in April are now delayed.
For instance, Karan Johar’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which stars Varun Dhawan, Jahnvi Kapoor, and Sanya Malhotra, will now release on September 12; it was earlier going to be released on April 8. Sources suggest that another reason for this delay is the buying of 50% of stake in Karan’s Dharma Productions by businessman Adar Poonawalla.
Similarly, the Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi-starrer Jolly LLB 3 will now hit the big screen in August.
On the other hand, Metro…In Dino, which was originally set to release on November 29 last year, will now come out on July 4.
It is believed that filmmakers avoid releasing their films during the IPL season due to a less amount of people visiting movie theatres at that time. Thus, they shift the dates by one or two months.
Meanwhile, Ananth Mahadevan, director of Phule, said that he is not affected by the IPL or any other reasons. He added that April 10 is the 197th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. They cannot miss the date, or else there would be no point.
