Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 Storms Box Office with Rs 102 Crore Opening Day

Ranveer Singh’s much-awaited sequel, Dhurandhar 2, has delivered a blockbuster start, collecting Rs 102 crore net in the domestic market on its first day of release. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film’s opening day earnings stood at Rs 102.55 crore, with the Hindi version contributing Rs 99.10 crore.

The spy action thriller, continuing the Lyari saga from the original Dhurandhar (released in December 2025), achieved this massive figure despite challenges including delays and cancellations of several regional shows on preview and opening days. These issues stemmed from technical difficulties and content availability problems in languages like Kannada and Malayalam.

Regional breakdowns from Sacnilk show the Tamil version earning Rs 1.16 crore from 958 shows in India, Telugu contributing Rs 2.12 crore, Kannada Rs 0.8 crore, and Malayalam Rs 0.9 crore. The strong Hindi performance drove the overall domestic total to cross the Rs 100 crore mark swiftly, marking a clean century on day one.

For context, the first film Dhurandhar opened with Rs 27 crore net and went on to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of its year. Dhurandhar 2 has outperformed its predecessor by nearly four times on opening day alone.

The film also benefited from paid previews held on December 18 (a day before the official release on December 19), which fetched Rs 43 crore from 12,735 shows despite some cancellations. Director Aditya Dhar addressed fans via a statement: “To our dear Dhurandhar family, Dhurandhar is not just a film for us—it is something we have lived with, nurtured, and dreamed of sharing with each and every one of you, together, at the same moment, in every language.” He further noted that most Hindi shows ran from 5 pm onwards, Tamil and Telugu from 9 pm, while Malayalam and Kannada screenings shifted to the following morning due to unforeseen issues.

In comparison to recent Hindi blockbusters, Dhurandhar 2 significantly outpaces Animal (2023) at Rs 63 crore and Jawan (2023) at Rs 65 crore on their respective opening days.

The review highlighted the sequel’s appeal, stating it “must be watched for all the answers you are seeking from the first film and for Ranveer Singh.” The cast reprises key roles from the original, including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt.

Despite logistical hurdles in some regions, the film’s momentum underscores strong audience demand and positions it as a major contender in 2026’s box office landscape.
