Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Climbs to Become India’s Second Highest-Grossing Animated Film

The blockbuster Japanese anime Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has secured its place as the second highest-grossing animated film ever in India, with estimated earnings of ₹57.25 crore after its fifth day in theaters. The film now trails only the Indian mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha, which holds the top spot.
Infinity Castle now also leads as the highest-grossing foreign animated release in the country, having surpassed the collection of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The achievement comes just weeks after Mahavatar Narsimha redefined box office potential for animation in India by shattering records. It became the first animated film to cross the ₹100 crore mark, eventually grossing over ₹250 crore. Industry observers note that had Infinity Castle released in India on its same July 18 Japan date, it would have briefly held the top record until Mahavatar Narsimha’s release a week later.
While Infinity Castle is not expected to challenge the monumental total of Mahavatar Narsimha, it has an outside chance of reaching the ₹100 crore milestone, depending on its performance in the coming week. A more immediate and realistic target is seen to be in the ₹85-90 crore range.
The back-to-back success of two major animated films within a year is being viewed as a highly encouraging sign for the genre in India, where animated features have historically had a limited audience. This surge is likely to spur production of more animated projects, particularly in the religious and spiritual space.
Furthermore, the strong performance of Demon Slayer is expected to open doors for more Japanese anime releases in Indian cinemas, with popular franchises like One Piece, Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaisen identified as having significant potential.
