Actor Urvashi Rautela’s Team Issues Clarification As Her Temple Remark Faces Backlash

Mumbai: Actor Urvashi Rautela’s team on Saturday shared an official statement after the actor faced a backlash for allegedly claiming that she’s worshipped at a temple named after her, near the holy Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand. “Urvashi Rautela said that there is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand, not Urvashi Rautela’s temple. Now people don’t even listen to things properly; just hearing ‘Urvashi’ or ‘temple,’ they assumed that people worship Urvashi Rautela. Listen to this video properly and then speak (sic),” read the statement.
The team further quoted Rautela threatening legal action against those who tried to blow her statement out of proportion. It further read, “Urvashi said, yes, at Delhi University, she was worshipped as ‘Damdami Mai,’ and there’s a news article about it too. The 31-year-old asked the trolls to get their facts right, and not defame her, the woman with many interesting ‘first’ titles.

During a conversation with host Siddharth Kannan, Rautela said that the Urvashi Temple near the Badrinath Dham was built in her name. She added that the temple attracts devotees, including students from Delhi University, who even garland her pictures and call her ‘Damdamamai’. She went on and demanded a temple in her name in the South.
Her statement in the interview snowballed into a controversy, upsetting the priest of the temple and the locals, who ended up demanding legal action and a public apology from the actor. Local priest Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal, the former religious officer of Badrinath Dham, said that Urvashi Rautela’s claim was misleading.
