Abhishek Bachchan On Shah Rukh Khan: ‘He’s Always Been Like An Elder Brother To Me’

Mumbai: Abhishek Bachchan has spoken candidly about his close bond with Shah Rukh Khan, revealing that the superstar has played a much bigger role in his professional journey than simply being a friend or co-star.

Ahead of their much awaited collaboration in King, Bachchan recalled how Khan has supported him over the years and, at times, even taken personal responsibility for his career. For the actor, their relationship goes back much further than their work in films.

Bachchan described Khan as being much like an elder brother to him. The two first became close during Bachchan’s younger years, when he would spend time playing cricket with a group that included Hrithik Roshan, Uday Chopra and Sikandar Kher. The games were often held at filmmaker Aditya Chopra’s home, and Shah Rukh Khan would sometimes join them.

Those casual cricket sessions eventually grew into a lasting relationship. Bachchan said Khan has always been someone he could look up to, and his support has continued even as both actors have built their careers in the Hindi film industry.

One piece of advice from Khan has stayed with Bachchan for years. Before making his acting debut, Bachchan had asked the superstar about his favourite film. Khan’s response, rather than pointing to one of his earlier hits, was about focusing on the film he was making at that particular moment.

That advice clearly left an impression. Bachchan said he has carried the thought with him throughout his career and still follows the same approach. At present, King is his favourite film simply because it is the project he is working on.

Their relationship is now entering a new phase with King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The action entertainer stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and also features Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Arshad Warsi. Bachchan is playing a significant role in the film and is set to be seen as the antagonist.

Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, King is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 24, 2026.

While the film brings two familiar industry names together on screen, Bachchan’s comments underline something more personal for him, Shah Rukh Khan has never been just another Bollywood colleague. He has been a mentor, a well wisher and, in Bachchan’s own words, something close to an elder brother.
