From Microsoft To Sarvam: How India’s AI Summit Made This Techie Won Over His Parents ?

New Delhi : In a heartwarming narrative of career transition and familial approval, Harveen Singh Chadha, an LLM Researcher at Sarvam AI, recently shared how his move from a global tech giant to a homegrown startup eventually earned his parents’ enthusiastic support. According to a report, Chadha’s parents were initially skeptical when he resigned from Microsoft nearly ten months ago to join the Indian AI firm.

The turning point occurred following the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event, which saw Sarvam AI unveil a pioneering voice-first AI model designed specifically for the Indian population, brought the startup into the national spotlight. The model’s ability to support nearly two dozen regional languages garnered praise from industry leaders, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Taking on social media platform X, Chadha described his parent’s transformation from critics to his biggest promoters. He revealed that his father now diligently records news segments featuring the company, while his mother actively shares Sarvam AI’s updates in WhatsApp groups and with neighbors.

The story reflects a broader shift in India’s technological landscape, emphasized during the summit by Sarvam co-founder Vivek Raghavan. Raghavan highlighted that “sovereignty will always trump technical beads,” stressing the importance of building open-source, indigenous public infrastructure.

For Chadha, the professional milestone of contributing to India’s “AI stack” was coupled with the personal victory of seeing his parents’ doubt turn into pride. Though he characterized it as a “small win” with a long journey ahead, the story has resonated deeply as a testament to the rising prestige of India’s domestic tech sector.
