New Delhi: India’s Parliament to commence its much-anticipated Budget Session 2026-27 on January 28, marking the start of the year’s principal legislative period, with plans to carry on through April 2 across 30 sittings spread over 65 days. The session will open with an address from the President to both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, setting the tone for detailed discussions on government policy and financial planning.
Important Dates of Budget Session-
First Phase-
January 28, 2026: Budget session begins with the address by the President to the joint sitting of Parliament.
January 29, 2026: Presentation of Economic Survey.
February 1, 2026: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to present Union Budget 2026.
February 13, 2026: Conclusion of the first half of the budget session.
Second Phase-
March 9, 2026: Start of the second half of the budget session.
April 2, 2026: Conclusion of the second half of the budget session.
The schedule divides the proceedings into two segments: the first phase runs until February 13, followed by a recess that included financial matters pertaining to the Union Budget for 2026–2027 and the discussion of the Motion of Thanks for the President’s Address will take up the most of the first portion of the meeting. Then the second phase begins from March 9, continuing until the session’s conclusion on April 2 for mostly important legislative and other matters.

A central highlight of this Budget Session is the presentation of the Union Budget for 2026-27. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to unveil the financial blueprint on February 1 at 11 a.m., an event that many people are awaiting for. This year’s budget presentation is noteworthy as it falls on a Sunday, marking an unusual scheduling choice that underscores the importance of the fiscal exercise.
Ahead of the formal budget address, Parliament is expected to take up other key events. While the official order of business has not been fully released, industry coverage suggests that the Economic Survey, which reviews the economy’s performance and sets context for the budget, will be presented shortly before the budget day.
