Aamir Khan Productions Switches to Indian Flag DP Amid Sitaare Zameen Par Boycott Backlash

Mumbai: Aamir Khan Productions has updated its social media display picture to the Indian national flag, a move that comes as the production house faces growing calls to boycott its upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par. The change, observed across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X, follows criticism directed at actor-producer Aamir Khan for his delayed response to Operation Sindoor and a resurfaced video from a 2020 Turkey visit.

The boycott calls intensified after the trailer release of Sitaare Zameen Par, set to hit theaters on June 20, 2025. Social media users have cited Khan’s late support for Operation Sindoor, a significant anti-terror operation, and an old clip of him meeting Turkey’s First Lady, which has stirred controversy due to Turkey’s perceived stance on India-Pakistan issues. These factors have fueled online campaigns urging audiences to skip the film.

Netizens quickly noticed the production house’s new display picture, with many labeling it a “damage control” tactic. On Reddit, one user commented, “Lol he’s being boycotted online so clearly did it as damage control.” Another remarked, “It’s not like people wanting to boycott will change their minds, why are they trying to damage control?” The flag update has sparked widespread discussion, with screenshots circulating across social media platforms.

Despite the backlash, Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, continues to generate buzz. The film features Khan as a basketball coach training a team of intellectually disabled players, with Genelia Deshmukh in a key role. As the controversy unfolds, all eyes remain on how the film will perform amid the ongoing social media storm.
