Mumbai Welcomes Rainy Relief as Showers Ease Humidity

Mumbai: Early Saturday morning, rainfall swept across multiple areas of Mumbai, providing much-needed relief from the city’s persistent humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that neighborhoods such as Thakur Village in Kandivali East were among those experiencing the showers. The IMD had issued a yellow alert for the city, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms through May 17.
The unexpected downpour, attributed to pre-monsoon weather patterns, caught some residents off guard but was largely welcomed as it alleviated the discomfort of high humidity levels. Videos circulating on social media platforms showcased the rain’s impact across southern, western, and central Mumbai, highlighting the city’s temporary respite from the muggy conditions.
The IMD’s yellow alert, initially announced earlier in the week, warned of potential thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in Mumbai and surrounding areas, including Thane, Raigad, and Palghar. Weather officials noted that these conditions signal the early onset of pre-monsoon activity, with scattered showers expected to continue in the region.
While the rain brought cooler temperatures, the IMD cautioned that humidity might persist in the evenings. The forecast suggests a mix of rainy and dry days ahead, with clearer skies anticipated by May 18–20, offering Mumbai residents a brief window of more stable weather.
