Militant Killed in Shopian Encounter with Security Forces

Srinagar: A militant was killed in a clash with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday, according to police reports. The encounter took place in the Chakoora area of south Kashmir, where security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence about the presence of militants.

A police official stated that the operation began in the early hours when joint forces, including Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), sealed off the area. As the search progressed, the militant opened fire on the forces, triggering a gunfight. The security personnel retaliated, resulting in the militant’s death.

The police have not yet identified the slain militant or confirmed their group affiliation. The operation remained ongoing, with security forces continuing to search the area for any additional threats, the official added.

This incident follows a pattern of similar operations in the region, with security forces maintaining heightened vigilance in response to militant activities in south Kashmir. No casualties among the security personnel were reported during the encounter.
