India Denies Trade Talks with US Amid Operation Sindoor Discussions

Indian government sources have refuted claims by US President Donald Trump that trade was discussed during high-level talks between Indian and US officials following Operation Sindoor. According to the sources no mention of trade occurred in these conversations, which focused solely on the military operation.

The discussions involved key Indian figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. On May 9, Vice President JD Vance spoke with PM Modi, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks with Jaishankar on May 8 and 10, and with Doval on May 10. Sources emphasized that these exchanges centered on Operation Sindoor, with no reference to trade matters.

The clarification comes in response to Trump’s assertion that trade was part of the dialogue, a claim Indian officials have firmly denied. The talks followed India’s military operation, which sources say was the primary focus of the conversations with US counterparts.
