New Delhi: India on Monday said it shot down a Pakistani Mirage fighter aircraft during Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. The announcement of the Pakistani Mirage jet being shot down was made by senior officials of the Indian armed forces during a joint briefing earlier today.
The briefing was jointly led by Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Director General Air Operations Air Vice Marshal AK Bharti and Director General of Naval Operations Vice Admiral AN Pramod. Air Vice Marshal AK Bharti said the highlight of the days-long military conflict between both countries was India’s indigenously developed Akash air defence system. “Our battle-proven systems stood the test of time and take them head on.
Another highlight has been the stellar performance of the indigenous air defence system, the Akash system. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation around 8 pm, his first since the start of Operation Sindoor, officials said. India launched Operation Sindoor in the wee hours of May 7 and struck nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK). The entire operation lasted just 25 minutes.
Radar sites at Pasrur and Sialkot aviation bases were also targeted using precision munitions, causing massive damage. DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said that 35-40 Pakistani military personnel were killed in the combat and India achieved its desired objectives. After India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday evening, the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday remained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir and other areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border, the Army said.
