India Vows Swift Action Against Terrorists in Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi – India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of New Delhi’s firm resolve to target terrorists in Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The conversation, which took place on May 1, came in response to the April 22 assault that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, in the scenic valley.

During the call, Jaishankar emphasized India’s unwavering stance, stating, “We will hit the terrorists in Pakistan, and there should be no doubt about it,” according to sources. The attack, one of the deadliest in the region in recent years, prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The US State Department, in a statement, expressed condolences for the “horrific” Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting India in combating terrorism. Tensions escalated as Pakistan responded with drone and missile attacks on May 7-8, targeting multiple Indian cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, and Chandigarh. These were neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.

On May 10, Rubio and Jaishankar held further discussions amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions. Rubio stressed the need for de-escalation, while Jaishankar reiterated India’s measured yet resolute approach to counterterrorism. The dialogue reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage the volatile situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
