New Delhi: A soldier sustained minor injuries in a brief exchange of fire at the Nagrota Military Station in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed on Saturday. According to a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the incident occurred when an alert sentry detected suspicious activity near the station’s perimeter and engaged the intruder. Search operations are currently ongoing to locate the suspect.
As tensions rise, precautionary measures were taken across several districts in Punjab, including Pathankot, Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozepur, and Jalandhar. Streetlights were turned off in parts of Jalandhar to maintain security. However, authorities clarified that an official blackout had not been declared.
“Due to recent developments reported in the media and as a preventive measure, street lighting is being switched off in some areas,” stated the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar, urging residents to remain calm, as the city remains unaffected.
In a related development, India accused Pakistan of violating a ceasefire understanding reached earlier the same day between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations. At a press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned the breach, stating that Pakistan’s actions had disrupted the agreement and that the Indian Army was responding accordingly to the ongoing border intrusions.
“This constitutes a serious violation of the agreement made just hours ago,” Misri said. “Our armed forces are responding decisively. Pakistan must act responsibly and take immediate steps to address the situation.”
Misri also confirmed that Indian forces have been instructed to respond firmly to any further infractions along both the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).
The escalation comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In response, India targeted nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Pakistan has since responded with a series of artillery and drone-based provocations, further inflaming cross-border tensions.
