Samba (Jammu and Kashmir): The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully blocked a major infiltration attempt late Thursday night along the International Border in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The BSF Jammu Frontier confirmed the incident on social media platform X, stating, “At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”
In related developments, ANI reported citing multiple sources that Indian Air Defence systems had shot down a Pakistani Air Force jet in the Pathankot sector of Punjab. Official confirmation from the Indian government is still pending, and further details are awaited.
Additionally, defence sources indicated that the Indian Army intercepted and neutralised two Pakistani drones in Jammu and Kashmir’s Naushera sector during a heavy artillery exchange between the two countries.
According to the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Pakistan attempted to strike military stations near the International Border in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using drones and missiles. The Indian Armed Forces swiftly neutralised the threats using both kinetic and non-kinetic measures. “Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur in proximity to the International Boundary, in Jammu and Kashmir targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per SoP,” the statement read on X.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting with the Director Generals of all border guarding forces. The meeting focused on evaluating India’s defensive readiness following Pakistan’s large-scale missile and drone assaults on regions including Jammu, Rajasthan, and strategic areas such as Satwari, RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Jaisalmer. All incoming threats were intercepted, and no major damage was reported.
In a separate session, Shah also reviewed airport security across India with the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), in light of elevated alerts at key infrastructure hubs.
These security measures follow the Indian Armed Forces’ launch of “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, during which precision missile strikes were carried out on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). As per Indian officials, the operation specifically targeted infrastructure linked to terror outfits including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
The action came in direct response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 28 civilians.
