Student from Jammu and Kashmir Attacked in Nagpur, Motive Unclear

A pharmacy student from Jammu and Kashmir was assaulted by a group of local residents in Nagpur’s Kamptee area on Sunday, according to police reports. The reason for the attack remains unknown, and the victim has not yet filed a formal complaint.

The incident involved two first-year Bachelor of Pharmacy students from Doda and Jammu, who were returning to their hostel. One student stepped aside to relieve himself, while the other waited by the roadside. A group of locals approached the waiting student, questioning his origins. When he struggled to respond, the group began beating him, the official explained. The second student returned, clarified that both were enrolled at a local college, and the assailants allowed them to leave.

One of the students later reported the incident to Nasir Khuehami, an office-bearer of the J&K Students Association. Khuehami shared details on his X account, calling for intervention from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The student dismissed any hate-driven motive, noting it was their first year in Nagpur and they were unfamiliar with the Kamptee area. He recounted that around 6:15 p.m., two to three individuals confronted them, asking about their identity and origins. Despite explaining they were from Jammu and Kashmir, the student said “anti-social elements” attacked them.

Police are awaiting a formal complaint to proceed with further investigation.
