Owaisi Issues Stern Warning to Pakistan Over Nuclear Threats

Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and a Lok Sabha MP, sharply criticized Pakistan for its recent provocative rhetoric following the Pahalgam terror attack. Owaisi condemned the aggressive statements from Pakistani leaders, particularly in response to India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty after the deadly assault.
Owaisi cautioned Pakistan against threatening India with military conflict or nuclear retaliation, asserting that such posturing was futile given India’s superior military and economic strength. “Pakistan lags half a century behind India,” he said. “Our defense budget surpasses your entire national budget. Pakistani leaders must refrain from nuclear war threats.” He emphasized that attacks on innocent civilians, especially those targeted based on religion, would not go unanswered, stating, “No nation will stay silent when its people are killed.”
The AIMIM leader’s remarks were prompted by Pakistani Minister Hanif Abbasi’s threats of nuclear retaliation, which included references to Pakistan’s arsenal of Ghori, Shaheen, and Ghaznavi missiles and 130 nuclear warheads. Owaisi condemned such actions, noting that targeting individuals based on faith was contrary to religious principles.
In addition to his warning to Pakistan, Owaisi offered advice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, urging it to treat Kashmiri people as integral to India, just as the region itself is. “Kashmir is part of India, and so are its people,” he said, addressing perceptions that some narratives unfairly link Kashmiris to the Pahalgam attack, which may have involved local complicity.
The Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with India taking diplomatic measures, including downsizing Pakistan’s embassy. Owaisi’s statements reflect a broader call for restraint and unity in the face of escalating regional tensions.
