India Ready To Cancel Ceasefire Agreement With Pakistan After J&K Terror Attack: Report
Terror outfits based in Pakistan continue cross-border infiltration despite ceasefire, prompting reconsideration of agreement

New Delhi: The Indian government is reportedly weighing the option of revoking the 2021 ceasefire agreement with Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed multiple lives. Citing official sources, CNN-News18 reported that an announcement could be made soon.
The move is being considered in light of Pakistan’s repeated violations of the ceasefire and failure to prevent infiltration by terror groups operating from its territory. Organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and The Resistance Front have remained active and are believed to be responsible for continued unrest in Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceasefire agreement, signed in February 2021, was intended to halt hostilities along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. However, between 2023 and 2024, there has been a surge in sniper attacks and shelling incidents attributed to Pakistan-based operatives.
Following an all-party meeting held in Delhi to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the media. “The Defence Minister provided a briefing on the Pahalgam incident and the actions taken by the government during the CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) meeting. This is a tragic incident that has shocked the nation. The government is now considering stricter measures,” he said.
Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also attended the meeting and voiced full support. “Everyone unequivocally condemned the attack. The opposition stands united with the government in any action it decides to take,” Gandhi stated.
