Bengal Braces for Heavy Rain from October 28 to 30 as Bay of Bengal System Strengthens

A weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall to several parts of West Bengal between October 28 and 30, the India Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

The system, currently a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm. It is forecast to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28 and then move northwestward.

Under its influence, squally winds are expected along and off the Bengal coast from October 27. Heavy rainfall is predicted in South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia between October 28 and 30.

Other districts in south Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rain during the same period. In north Bengal, heavy rainfall is expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on October 29 and 30.

The weather office has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the West Bengal coast from October 27 until further notice.
