Air India caps Srinagar flight fares; free cancellations, rescheduling amid Pahalgam attack fallout

New Delhi: Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, national carrier Air India has announced a cap on flight fares from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai to maintain affordability for travelers. The move aims to ease travel concerns for tourists and locals amid heightened tension in the region.

In a post on social media platform X, Air India clarified that any high fares seen on booking platforms may result from multi-stop routes or premium cabin selections. The airline emphasized its support for passengers during this difficult period, offering complimentary rescheduling and full refunds for cancellations on bookings made for travel until April 30, 2025.

For assistance, passengers can reach Air India’s support centers at 011 69329333 and 011 69329999.

Low-cost carrier SpiceJet also extended a similar gesture, waiving rescheduling and cancellation fees on all bookings made on or before April 22 for travel to and from Srinagar until the end of the month. “We stand in heartfelt solidarity with the victims, their families, and all those impacted by this tragedy,” the airline said in a public advisory.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu earlier addressed the situation, confirming that the government has taken steps to monitor flight prices and prevent fare hikes. “Strict instructions have been issued to airlines to maintain reasonable fares,” Naidu stated on X.

He also noted that provisions including food, water, and an additional waiting tent have been arranged at Srinagar Airport. “Between 6 AM and 12 PM today, the airport handled 20 departures with 3,337 passengers,” the minister added. “I’m personally monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Home Ministry and airlines. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every citizen.”
