JD Vance Reaches Out to PM Modi After Pahalgam Attack, Assures Full US Support Against Terror
US VP Vance and President Trump express solidarity with India; offer all possible assistance in counter-terror efforts

New Delhi: US Vice President JD Vance held a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, extending his condolences over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Terming the incident as “dastardly,” Vance conveyed America’s unwavering support for India during this tragic time.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the call via a post on X, stating that Vice President Vance assured the US is prepared to extend all necessary assistance in the shared fight against terrorism. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to both Vance and President Donald Trump for their messages of solidarity.
Currently visiting India with his family, Vance addressed the media, condemning the attack and reiterating the United States’ commitment to help India. As per a video posted by Russia Today, he remarked, “I want to issue our condolences to the people of Kashmir who were affected by this terrible terrorist attack.”
Vance highlighted the earlier conversation between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump, affirming that the US administration stands ready to support India. “The President has already spoken with Prime Minister Modi. We are offering every possible form of assistance,” Vance said.
In a separate post on X, Vance wrote, “Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”
President Trump also spoke with PM Modi on Tuesday night, condemning what he referred to as an “Islamist terror attack.” He reaffirmed America’s commitment to standing with India in its battle against terrorism and pledged all possible support.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment in a post on X, writing, “The United States stands with India.” Meanwhile, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz labeled the Pahalgam attack a “terrible tragedy” in response to President Trump’s statement.
The attack among the deadliest since the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 has prompted heightened security across the region. Footage from the area shows empty streets in what is usually a bustling tourist destination. In response, several organizations have called for a Jammu bandh, and search operations are underway to locate those responsible for the assault.
