Vijay’s Surprise Sigma Gesture For Son Jason Sanjay Steals The Spotlight On Release Day

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay gave son Jason Sanjay a public show of support on the very day his directorial debut Sigma arrived in theatres, turning a brief moment at a Madhurandhagam roadshow into one of the film’s most talked about visuals.
During his roadshow on Friday, October 2, a volunteer handed Vijay a framed photograph of Jason Sanjay from Sigma. Vijay accepted the frame, raised it above his head and turned it towards the crowd, allowing those gathered to see the picture. A video of the moment later circulated widely on social media.
The gesture came as Sigma marked Jason Sanjay’s first feature as a director. The film, starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah, opened in theatres on October 2 and was released in both Tamil and Telugu. The project is an action adventure heist entertainer centred on a high value racket and a group attempting to pull off a major heist. Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Yog Japee and Raju Sundaram are also part of the cast.
Vijay, however, was not present for the film’s first day first show in Chennai. He had official engagements and a political schedule on release day. Earlier that morning, he launched a free bus travel programme for women before heading to the Madhurandhagam roadshow.
At Chennai’s Kamala Cinemas, Jason was joined by his mother Sangeetha Sornalingam and sister Divya Saasha for the opening day screening. Their appearance added another family moment to a release that has been closely watched because of Jason’s connection to one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars.
Jason has previously said that he wanted Sigma to establish its own identity. Ahead of the release, he explained that Vijay would not be part of the promotional campaign because he wanted the attention to remain on the film rather than his father’s political stature and responsibilities.
The roadshow gesture, therefore, offered a different kind of support brief, spontaneous and away from the film’s formal publicity campaign.
Sigma had undergone changes before reaching theatres. Originally scheduled for July 31, the film was subsequently postponed before the makers announced October 2 as its final release date. The project was produced by Lyca Productions, with music composed by S Thaman.
With Sigma now in theatres, Jason Sanjay has officially begun his journey behind the camera, while Vijay’s unexpected release day gesture has given his son’s directorial debut an additional talking point beyond the film itself.
