According to local sources cited by PTI, approximately 20 individuals were injured in a recent terrorist attack targeting a resort in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar for an emergency security meeting later today. Shah confirmed through a post on X that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been briefed on the situation.
The terror group responsible for the attack, The Resistance Front (TRF), was banned by the Indian government in January 2023 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. TRF first appeared shortly after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Narendra Modi administration on August 5, 2019. Initially established as an online presence, TRF transitioned into active operations within six months.
Primarily recruiting from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and other extremist outfits, TRF has been implicated in numerous violent incidents. Sheikh Sajjad Gul, also known as Sheikh Sajjad, the founder of the group, claims the organization opposes “local oppression” and asserts independence from Pakistan and figures like Hafiz Saeed.
Sheikh Sajjad Gul, born on October 10, 1974, in Srinagar, was officially designated a terrorist by Indian authorities in 2022. Investigations indicate that financial operations linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba have also supported TRF. Official figures from 2022 reveal that out of 172 terrorists neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir, 108 were connected to TRF. Additionally, among 100 newly recruited militants, 74 joined The Resistance Front.
