Pahalgam: One tourist was killed and seven others injured in a terror attack at the popular Baisaran mountain top in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists engaged in trekking and horse-riding activities, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police.
News agency PTI reported that multiple gunshots were heard in the Baisaran valley, a scenic spot accessible only by foot or horseback. Initial reports suggest two to three attackers, dressed in fatigues, targeted the group indiscriminately.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Officials noted that the trail where the attack occurred is a non-motorable route, raising concerns about possible traps laid by the attackers.
The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to secure the region. Investigations are ongoing to trace the perpetrators.
