Delhi’s Former CM Atishi Faces Security Downgrade Amid Political Tensions

The Ministry of Home Affairs has reduced the security cover of former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi from Z category to Y category, as confirmed by official sources on Saturday. This decision, based on a recent threat assessment by security agencies, has sparked objections from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which labeled the move as politically motivated.

Atishi, a prominent AAP leader, previously enjoyed Z category protection, which included approximately 22 security personnel, including CRPF commandos. The downgrade to Y category now provides her with around 10 personnel, a change that AAP claims compromises her safety. The party has pointed fingers at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the decision stems from political vendetta.

Security officials, however, maintain that the adjustment aligns with standard protocols following a thorough review by central agencies. The assessments are routine and based on current threat perceptions.

AAP leaders have vowed to raise the issue publicly, arguing that the reduction in security endangers Atishi at a time of heightened political friction. Meanwhile, neither the Ministry of Home Affairs nor BJP representatives have issued public comments on the matter.
