Rickshaw Driver Runs Over Man Twice For Not Paying Rs. 30 Fare In Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: In a shocking incident of crime over a petty dispute, an auto-rickshaw driver ran over his passenger twice after he allegedly failed to pay a fare of Rs. 30. The accused, identified as 22-year-old Samir Kanubhai Raghunath Natt, has been arrested by the police within hours of the incident.

An investigation was started in the hit-and-run case when the unidentified body of a man in his late 40s was found dead with fatal injuries on April 20 near Kalash Residency, opposite Jain Derasar at the Navrangpura crossroads. A probe was quickly launched, and over 300 CCTV footage clips were reviewed by a joint team led by senior officers from Zone-1 and the LCB. It revealed that the victim was brutally run over by a rickshaw bearing number GJ01BX2545. The vehicle was traced to Bhupendrabhai Rajkumar Natt. However, it was later discovered that it was 22-year-old Samir Kanubhai Raghunath Natt, a resident of Rudra Apartment, Bodakdev, who was driving it at the time of the incident.

The police learned that the incident took place on Sunday night, when the victim took the rickshaw being driven by the accused, along with another man, from the Vadaj bus station. After Natt dropped off the other passenger at Lakhudi Talavadi, he brought the victim toward Navrangpura. When the victim asked to relieve himself near Jain Derasar, both stopped at Kalash Hotel. During the break, the victim told the driver he had no money to pay the Rs. 30 fare and walked away.

Reportedly, this enraged the accused, and as a result, he drove over the man with his auto, took a U-turn, came back, and ran over him again, causing his death. He then fled the site. Police said the driver confessed to the crime during questioning. A case has been registered under BNS Section 103(1) for murder and Sections 177, 184, and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
