Man Detained in Mumbai for Stabbing Woman Over Umbrella Dispute

A 26-year-old man was arrested by Worli police on Saturday evening after allegedly stabbing a woman in her early twenties following a minor altercation involving an umbrella. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the Siddhivinayak temple in Worli, a bustling area of south Mumbai.

The confrontation began when the woman’s umbrella inadvertently brushed against the man as they passed each other on the street. This minor contact sparked an argument, which quickly escalated. The man, enraged, retrieved a shard of glass from nearby and attacked the woman, inflicting a stab wound to her arm. Onlookers promptly intervened, restraining the assailant and alerting the authorities.

Worli police responded swiftly, taking the suspect into custody at the scene. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she received treatment for her injury and was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities identified the suspect as a local resident and charged him with causing hurt using a dangerous weapon under section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The glass shard used in the attack was recovered and submitted as evidence.

A senior police official confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to determine further details of the incident. The suspect remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
