A 32-year-old man suffered serious injuries after leaping into a dam in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, while attempting a stunt for a social media video. Pushpendra Kumar Manouria jumped from a height of approximately 30 feet into the Pahuj Dam on Sunday evening.
Accompanied by friends, he had gone to the site and climbed over a safety railing at a viewpoint as they filmed the act. The jump went wrong when he struck a rocky surface beneath the water, which proved shallower than expected. He sustained fractures in both legs and was unable to use them afterward.
A video of the incident circulated widely. It captures him crossing the railing while one companion remarks, “God bless your soul,” moments before the leap. Despite the injuries, Pushpendra moved through the water using his hands. He reached a rod and used it to pull himself toward safety, with bystanders assisting him out of the water.
Police arrived after learning of the accident and arranged for him to be taken to a private hospital. His family was informed and joined him there. Doctors performed surgery on one leg, inserting two rods due to the severity of the fracture. The other leg is also expected to require surgical intervention.
Pushpendra later explained that he had attempted similar stunts at various locations in the past and believed he could handle the jump. He was unaware of the shallow water and rocky bottom at the landing spot. He remained in the water for some time after the fall before using the rod and help from friends to reach the edge.
The episode has led him to reconsider such activities. He stated that he would not attempt a comparable stunt again.
