35 Year Old Residential Building Collapses In Vadodara, Four Injured

Vadodara: An old building in Vadodara’s Samta area, under the jurisdiction of the Lakshmipura police station, collapsed on Sunday night. The incident resulted in injuries to four, though fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
According to reports, the collapsed building, named Surya Kiran, was approximately 35 years old. Emergency services, including the Fire Department, ambulance, and police, promptly reached the site and began rescue operations. Joint Police Commissioner Leena Patil confirmed that Surya Kiran had a total of six flats, out of which three collapsed during the incident.
Local corporator Shrirang Iyer stated that two to three people sustained minor injuries and have received medical attention. The building was reportedly undergoing renovation work on the ground floor, which may have caused vibrations that led to the collapse. It is believed that the new owner of the house had arrived on the ground floor at the time. A prior notice had been issued to the building by the Housing Board through the Nirbhaya branch, indicating concerns about the structure’s safety.
Residents reported that as the building began to vibrate, three individuals inside felt the tremors and managed to evacuate just before the structure collapsed. Initially, there were concerns that laborers involved in the renovation work might be trapped. However, upon contacting the contractor, police confirmed that no workers were present at the site when the collapse occurred.
