Veteran actress Archana Puran Singh has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding comedian Samay Raina’s jokes about her family on India’s Got Latent ,Far from feeling insulted, she and her son Aaryamann Sethi have clarified that the remarks were pure comedy and that she has no regrets about appearing on the show.
During the episode, Raina referenced the family’s popular vlogs and quipped that neither Archana’s husband Parmeet Sethi nor her two sons worked, calling the sons “nalle” (jobless) and joking about “reverse patriarchy” in their household. The comments drew criticism online from some viewers who felt they crossed a line.
In a video shared on Aary Vlogs, Aaryamann, who was present in the audience, defended the comedian. “First of all, let’s just point this out: it’s a joke. And it’s okay. He did not mean to hurt me or anyone in my family,” he said. He added that audiences have become “too sensitive” about comedy and noted that the family shares a good relationship with Raina.
Archana echoed the sentiment, drawing a parallel with her long association with Kapil Sharma, who frequently jokes about her. “When Kapil makes jokes on me, his intent is not to hurt me… Similarly with Samay. I didn’t personally get offended by anything,” she stated.
She emphasised that she knew the nature of India’s Got Latent before joining. “Whoever is out there feeling bad for us, please don’t . He just wanted to create that one moment of laughter for everybody. For me, that was the intent of that punch. I have no regret about Latent,” Archana concluded.
The family’s response underscores a clear distinction between intent and perception in comedy, urging fans not to take offence on their behalf.
