In the Ramgarh region of Jharkhand, a herd of elephants trampled two ladies to death on Monday, according to officials. The victims were working in a field when the tragedy occurred around 8.30 am in Barkipona village, which is inside the boundaries of the Rajrappa police station.
Sabina Khatoon (60) and Dhano Devi (37), who lived in the same area, were identified as the fatalities, according to the statement.
“The victims died after a herd of wild elephants trampled them while they were working in the field.” Officer-in-charge of the Rajrappa police station Krishna Kumar told the news agency PTI that Devi passed away immediately while Khatoon died from her wounds while receiving treatment in a hospital.
According to him, both victims’ remains were transported to a government hospital for post-mortem investigations.
Nitish Kumar, the Ramgarh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), reported seeing a herd of 44 jumbos wandering around in two groups. For the communities in the blocks of Gola, Chitarpur, and Dulmi, the forest department and district government have issued an elephant alert.
He stated that a Quick Response Team equipped with firecrackers, drums, and fire torches has been sent out to monitor the two herds’ continued movements and drive them out of the populated area.
