Colombo: With at least eight Indian players currently sidelined with various injuries and Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill only just recovering from a finger injury, it is fair to say that Team India are under some pressure in Sri Lanka. However, on Saturday, Ravindra Jadeja provided some much-needed entertainment in the dressing-room balcony during India’s warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI, making head coach Gautam Gambhir and his teammates laugh.
It was perhaps the first time that fans got to see just how good the senior-most Indian player and spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja can be at mimicry. Jadeja imitated the bowling action and style of his fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav, leaving everyone in splits. Jadeja’s hilarious Kuldeep-style act has now gone viral on social media.
There was a time when Jadeja formed a highly successful spin partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin. Together, the two spinners troubled opposition batters and played a major role in several of India’s victories. Since Ashwin’s retirement, Jadeja has increasingly been seen alongside Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep had earlier formed a successful spin partnership with Yuzvendra Chahal, but Chahal has not played for India for the past three years, making Jadeja a more regular spin partner for Kuldeep.
Jadeja first performed a full-fledged imitation of Kuldeep with a smile, and then said something to head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was sitting nearby. Gambhir immediately burst into laughter. Kuldeep picked up two wickets for 76 runs in the first innings of India’s only warm-up match in Sri Lanka.
