Army Jawan Arrested for Role in Grenade Attack on Punjab YouTuber’s Home

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police have apprehended an Indian Army jawan in connection with a grenade attack targeting the residence of Jalandhar-based YouTuber Rozer Sandhu last month. The suspect, Sukhcharan Singh, was stationed in Jammu and Kashmir and allegedly provided online guidance to one of the perpetrators on how to execute the grenade assault, according to authorities.
The incident occurred during the night of March 15-16, when an assailant hurled a hand grenade at Sandhu’s home in Jalandhar. Fortunately, the device failed to detonate, preventing any injuries or damage. Following an investigation, Punjab Police identified Singh’s involvement and notified Army officials of his alleged role. A Jalandhar court has since remanded Singh to five days of police custody as the probe continues.
Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti claimed responsibility for the attack in a video statement, alleging that Sandhu had used derogatory language against the Muslim community. Bhatti’s claims surfaced shortly after the incident, prompting authorities to explore potential motives, including attempts to disrupt Punjab’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, as suggested by Jalandhar Rural SSP Gurmeet Singh. The police are also examining CCTV footage and questioning Sandhu about past comments, though no objectionable content has been confirmed thus far.
