Google suspends 2.9 Million Ad Accounts in India

New Delhi: Google has suspended 2.9 million advertiser accounts and removed 247.4 million ads in India in 2024 for violating its advertising policies, according to its latest annual Ads Safety Report released on Wednesday.

Globally, the tech giant took down over 5.1 billion ads, restricted another 9.1 billion, and suspended more than 39.2 million advertiser accounts over policy breaches.

“In India, 247.4 million ads were removed and 2.9 million advertiser accounts were suspended,” the report confirmed.

The company stated it implemented over 50 improvements to its large language models (LLMs) last year, which accelerated investigations into fraudulent activities. These advancements enabled faster detection of harmful signals such as fake payment details used during account creation.

In a blog post outlining the report, Google highlighted how it adapted its security systems to counter emerging threats, including a surge in AI-generated ads impersonating public figures.

A dedicated team of more than 100 experts was formed to enhance safeguards, including updating the platform’s misrepresentation policy. This update led to the permanent suspension of over 700,000 advertiser accounts involved in scam promotions.

The blog noted that these efforts contributed to a 90% reduction in user reports of impersonation scam ads by the end of 2024.
